Pause is Melanie Dunea’s photographic diary of New York City during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Created between March and June 2020 and published by Photo London Academy, it combines photographs with first-person entries documenting a city abruptly transformed.
Moving through deserted streets, shuttered restaurants, subway platforms and public demonstrations, Dunea records the isolation and uncertainty of lockdown, the essential workers who continued to show up, and the protests that followed the death of George Floyd.
